Abstract

The rapid growth of technology in the Society 5.0 era has significantly influenced how young people view their roles as citizens. Amid this progress, there is growing concern over the decline of national defense awareness among university students. This community engagement program aimed to reignite students’ understanding and awareness of national defense, focusing on those at the State Fisheries Polytechnic of Tual. The activity was conducted through a two-day interactive socialization involving 85 students from various departments. Pre- and post-tests showed a significant increase in students’ understanding of national defense—not only as a military obligation, but also as a civic responsibility carried out through academic, social, and digital contributions. Interviews with three students revealed that the program helped reshape their perspectives on how they can serve the nation through their daily actions and future professions. The results confirm that with a contextual and participatory approach, patriotic values can be effectively instilled in the younger generation.
