Abstract

This research explores the concept of the duality between freedom and responsibility in the business context, with an emphasis on the business philosophy views of figures such as Milton Friedman, John Stuart Mill, Immanuel Kant, Peter Drucker, Adam Smith, and Albert Carr. This research discusses how these two concepts can coexist and be managed to achieve the balance required in the business environment. Research findings show that freedom and responsibility should not be viewed as exclusive choices, but rather as dualities that can complement each other. For example, an analysis of Friedman's view of business freedom as the primary focus of companies, while critical questions are raised regarding social and environmental impacts, illustrates the complexity of the relationship between freedom and responsibility. The research conclusion emphasizes the importance of realizing that the right arrangement between freedom and responsibility can form a dynamic and ethical corporate culture. Meanwhile, practical advice is provided to business stakeholders to understand organizational values and ensure the integration of freedom and responsibility in decision and policy making. This research concludes by generating insights for further research that can more deeply explore the concrete impact of the integration of freedom and responsibility in various industrial contexts and organizational cultures. Thus, this research contributes to the philosophical understanding of this duality and offers practical insights for establishing a sustainable and ethical business culture.
